Revival of Matriarchal Society in the Far East

Pastor shin: One of most valiant women of our times

  Before the recorded history of civilization started six thousand years ago, we had in this world a matriarchal society where women ruled the community and the world. The job of men was simply to hunt and to bring food home as well as to build places of habitation. This era of history was characterized by peace because women, by nature, tend to rule from the heart, which is loving and trusting.

 When the patriarchal society took over and the world became ruled by men, conflicts began to be solved through struggles and wars. These elements have inflicted untold suffering on millions of people by the process of time unnecessarily. Men, by their very nature, rule from the mind, which is suspicious and far from being trusting. This philosophy is revealed in a very vivid way today in the major governments of the world. The belief that a strong military that is equipped with the most devastating weapons of destruction is the only way to bring about peace, has proven to be fallacious already for the last six thousand years.

Over this patriarchal period, most women struggled hard to revive the matriarchal society with little or no success. But each time they succeeded the world soon noticed the difference.
 
 
 In the old testament we have had women of the caliber of Judith and Esther, among others. Over the past sox thousand years, numerous women came into picture for their outstanding contributions in trying to revive the matriarchal society. Although they did not succeed on a global scale, they did make a difference. Among such women we had Rita of Cascia and recently Mother Teresa of Calcutta. Nowadays, the number of women that are trying to revive the matriarchal society is on the increase. This should instill in us hope of seeing eventually a genuine world peace. One of the most valiant women of our times, who has been described as the Second Mother Teresa of the 21st century, is from South korea. Her name is Hyon Ok Shin, who has promulgated the Sugasung World Mission Church, which facuses on love for one's neighbor. She is commonly known as Pastor Shin because she is an outstanding precher and has been instrumental in establishing mumerous churches in Southeast Asia including China.

  The Chinese hovernment is so impressed with her, that they gave her all the land she needs to establish churches that promote love among people from every walk of life and profession. She visits China often and she is always received with open arms.

  The churches she established are always flocked with people to hear her talking about the importance of love and respect for every human being. Besides, close to her churches she has erected buildings for the homeless and the poor with adequate kichens and sleeping facilities. She receives money every goes to her. Everything goes straight to the poor and the neeby after the example of Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta.

  Her religious work is Christian oriented in the sense that she recognizes Jeasus of Nazareth as her Master Teacher. The Chinese hovernment treats her with great respect and she can achieve as much land as she wants, along with other vital needs for the people she looks after. It is very obvious that the divine providence is constantly with her, day and night. She practices constantly what she preaches. She is generous, altruistic, and detached from all the material things of this world. Besides, she is kind, humble, energetic and hard-working. As though such virtues were not enough, she is definitely endowed with the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit.

  Such divine gifts consist of wisdom revealed in distinguishing right from wrong, under standing relative to human needs, counsel in procuring people with adequate guidance, fortitude in accepting wilfully the ups and downs of life, knowledge to deal properly with the realities we face, compassion expressed in one's genuine love for all the suffering people of this world without exception, and fear of God, which consists of the fear of ever offending such a kind and loving heavenly Father who is always there to help her in everything she needs. The presence of this valiant lady in the Far East, commonly known as Pastor Shin Hyon Ok, has been a great blessing and a heavenly gift to this part of the world.

                            동아시아 모권사회의 리바이벌

              이 시대가 낳은 가장 뛰어난 여권신장의 기여자

 

 지구의 문명사가 기술되기 전인 약 6,000여 년 전에는 여성이 사회를 지배하던 모권사회였다.

 

 그 당시 남성의 역할은 단순한 사냥을 한다던가!

집에 식량을 구해오는 것 또는 주거시설을 만드는 것 등이었다.

 

 이 시대는 평화스러운 시절이었다. 왜냐하면 여성은 하나님이 주신 성격상 사랑과 신뢰에 바탕을 둔

 다스림이었고 이런 사랑은 가슴에서 나오기 때문이었다.

 

 그러나 세월이 흐르고 농경사회가 되면서 토지와 노동력이 삶의 중요한 위치를 차지하게 되었다.

그로 인해 노동력에서 비교우위 인 남성들의 시대가 되면서 여성우위시대는 물러나게 된다.

 

 부계사회로 바뀌면서부터 남성들은 전쟁과 투쟁이란 방법으로 문제해결을 하기 시작했다.

평화는 사라지고 남자들은 가슴이 아닌 머리로 백성들을 지배를 하게된다.

 

 그 후 인류는 말 못할 고통을 받게 된다. 남자들은 매사에 의심이 앞서고

폭력으로 남을 제압하려고 했으며 남에게 믿음을 주지 않았다. 그 후 대량파괴무기를

 보유한 강력한 군사력만이 평화를 유지시킬 수 있다는 잘못된 신념이 인류의 역사를 지배하게된다.

그러나 사실 이 같은 신념이 얼마나 우리 인간에게 수천 년간 피해를 주었으며

 잘못된생각이라는 것이 인류 역사가 증명하고 있다.

그러나 아직도 시정되지 않고 있는 것이 현실이다.

 

 부계사회로 바뀐 이후 지난 수천여년 간 여성들은 모계사회로의 복귀를

 위해 투쟁을 해왔다. 비록 여성들의 이러한 노력이 세계적인 규모로 성공을

 거두지는 못했다하더라도 그들의 노력으로 인해 여권신장은 계속되어 왔고

또 계속될 것이다.

 

 지금이 어느 시대인가? 근대 산업사회를 거쳐 정보화, 창조와 사회를 살고 있지 않은가?

이 시대의 경제적 기초는 지식과 정보 그리고 창조력이다.

만약 이러한 시대에 여자 혹은 장애인과 노인을 무시하는 것은 시대착오적인 사람이라고

규탄되어야한다.

 

 나는 여권신장에 기여한 인물중 대표적이라면 테레사 수녀가 아닐까 생각한다.

마케도니아 스코페에서 태어난 테레사 수녀는 1948년 인도 콜라타에 빈민구제운동단체 인

(사랑의 선교회)을 만들어 평생을 빈민구제 활동에 바쳤다.

 

 테레사 수녀는 1979년 노벨 평화상을 박았으며 종교와 지역을 뛰어넘어 인류애를

 실천함으로써 생존 시 '살아 있는 성녀'러 추앙 받았다.

 

 최근에 와서 더많은 여성들이 모권사회 복귀를 위한 노력과 투쟁을 계속하고 있다.

이런 운동은 궁극적으로 세계평화에 기여를 하고 있다.

 

 21세기에 들어 온 현 시점에 한국에 제2의 테레사 수녀 가 있다는 사실을 발견하고

큰 감명을 받았다. 그는 내가 최근 만난 여성목사님이신 신현옥 목사님이시다.

 

 신목사님은 한국이 낳은 위대한 여성종교지도자이며 하나님의 사랑을 몸소 실천하시는 분이다.

 

 그분은 또한 훌륭한 복음의 전도사로서 동남아시아 와 중국에 많은 교회를

건설하면서 소외 받고 어려운 이웃을 위해 헌신적인 노력을 하고 있다.

 

 중국정부는 그분의 사랑을 실천하는 모습에 감동해 교회건설에 필요한 토지를

무상제공하기로 했다. 신목사는 중국을 방문 할 때 마다 중국인들을 감동시키고 있다.

신 목사가 활짝 열린 마음으로 환영을 받는 이유가 여기에 있다.

 신목사가 세운 교회는 언제나 그분의 사랑에 대한 교시와 인간의 존엄성에 대한

감동적인 설교로 언제나 만원을 이룬다고 한다. 그는 언제나 교회근처에 무주택 빈민들을 위한

건물을 건설해 가난하고 소외된 주민들을 사랑으로 감사는 행동으로 늘 존경을 받고 있다고 한다.

많은 언금이 들어오지만 신목사은 한푼도 사적인 용도에는 사용하지 않는 것이 철칙이다.

이런돈은 가난한자들에게 어려운 사람들을 위한 사업에 마치 테레사 수녀의

생전의 모습을 그대로 닮은 듯이 사용되고 있다.

 

 신목사의 종교적인 헌신은 나사렛의 예수를 상기 시킨다. 중국정부는 신목사의

이런 헌신적인 노력에 존경을 아끼지 않고 있다.

신목사은 친절하고 겸손하며, 그러나 매우 역동적이고, 언제나 에너지가 넘치며

일에 열중하는분이라고 말하고 싶다.

 

 한마디로 신이 내려 주신 7가지 선물을 갖고 태어난 분이라는 것이 적절한 표현이 아닌가 한다.

이는 무엇보다 선과 악을 구분할 수 있는 능력일 것이고 하나님을 무서워할 줄 알면서

핍박박는 인류를 위해진정한 의미의 하나님의 사랑을 전해줄 수 있는 종교지도자라는 것이다.

 

 동아시아에 우뚝 선 신현옥 목사님이야 말로 한국은 물론 동아시아의 축복이며

하나님이 주신 복음의 사자라고 생각된다. 이에 LAEWP,UN-NGO 총재자격으로 그분을

UN-NGO평화대사로 임명했다. LAEWP로서도 큰 영광이 아닐 수 없다.
